Primary Purpose: Ensure safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized personnel on assigned route to and from schools or other designated locations.
Perform and oversee minor mechanical repairs and maintenance with minim supervision to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles.
Perform assigned work following established policies and procedures.
Perform daily cleaning and service of buses and vehicles.
Assist with any task that promotes the safe and efficient operation of transportation.
Qualifications: Education/Certification: High school diploma or equivalent Valid Texas CDL with passenger and student endorsements Valid Texas School Bus Driver Certification Special Knowledge/Skills: Must be 18 years of age Ability to successfully complete required bus driver safety training and physical examination Ability to pass alcohol and drug test Ability to manage student behavior Ability to verbally communicate on two-way radio Ability to effectively communicate in English (read, write and speak) Demonstrate problem-solving abilities Knowledge of routes and campuses Knowledge of student discipline procedures Pass a criminal background check and meet all local school district, state and federal requirements Ability to interpret schedules, forms and maps Ability to make critical decisions during pressure situations Ability to multitask Ability to visually inspect and service vehicles Knowledge of transportation management and vehicle repair and maintenance preferred Ability to manage budget and personnel Ability to coordinate transportation functions Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions Ability to communicate effectively with others Experience: Prior school bus driving experience is highly preferred General Responsibilities 1.

Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules.

Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities.
3.
Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs.
4.
Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries and mechanical failures.
Complete required reports.
5.
Keep assigned bus clean and fueled.
6.
Assist In the preventive maintenance of the bus.
Student Management 7.
Supervise students while they board and leave the bus and cross the street.
8.
Communicate with teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on bus.
9.
Maintain discipline; document and report student discipline problems to supervisor.
10.
Instruct students on safe riding rules, regulations and proper evacuation techniques.
Safety 11.
Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses and use effective defensive driving techniques.
12.
Observe all emergency and accident scene procedures.
13.
Perform appropriate first aid to the victim of an accident or sudden illness until the service of a health professional can be obtained.
14.
Inspect bus and document the Pre-Trip/Post-Trip checklist to ensure bus can be operated safely.
15.
Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, and reflector.

Transportation Assistant-Major Responsibilities and Duties: Maintenance and Repairs 17.

Fill tires and replace fluids as needed.

Fuel buses and other vehicles as necessary.
Maintain accurate records of use.
Safety 22.
Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
23.
Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing.
24.
Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
25.
Keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.
Advise supervisor of any defects in shop equipment.
Other 1.
Operate two-way radio equipment to communicate with transportation office and other campuses.
2.
Work irregular hours as needed.
3.
Attend and successfully complete all required training to maintain safety certification.
4.
Keep records on bus mileage, seat assignment and number of passengers transported.
5.
Operate buses and other vehicles as needed.
6.
Other duties as assigned.
