Position Description
The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Texas State University is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor of electronic media to join our ACEJMC accredited and award-winning program.
Our ideal candidate is an innovative team player who embraces digital media and has a global perspective.
In addition to excellence in teaching, we’re interested in a candidate with an active program of current research or creative activity.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach, conduct research, and work in our new broadcast studio, supervise field production, and work with our student broadcast chapter.
This nine-month, full-time position is expected to begin Fall 2024.
This position is subject to the availability of funds.
Required Qualifications
Terminal degree in mass communication, journalism, film or a related field.
Demonstrated teaching ability in electronic media.
The ideal candidate will be able to teach TV news production and one of the following: video production, sports media, documentary, and visual storytelling.
Professional experience in TV (reporting, producing, directing, shooting and editing video), including studio production.
Digital media production experience, including familiarity with professional television news electronic news gathering (ENG) cameras or DSLR cameras, mobile phones as a video production tool (for live broadcasts and social media) and experience with non-linear video editing.
Demonstrated record of scholarship or creative endeavors in mass communication; teaching and service appropriate for appointment at the rank of assistant professor (less than five years teaching).
Preferred Qualifications
Successful teaching experience with a live student newscast or other video production;
Experience with chromakeying with green screens and using virtual sets (i.
e.
, TriCaster);
Experience producing live television (for example, newscasts, entertainment, commercial or sports programming) and streaming content; and
Administrative leadership experience in a professional media or academic setting.
